As a Social Media Director, Sophie Polak was already familiar with Twirl. She'd been using the platform to manage UGC campaigns for agency clients, seeing firsthand how creators brought brand briefs to life.
But while she loved working with creators, she also missed making content herself. So she decided to step behind the camera, turning her creative skills into a part-time UGC business alongside her full-time job.
Between managing social media campaigns and working full-time, Sophie didn't have much time to explore her own creativity.
She'd previously started a home renovation account during lockdown and enjoyed creating content, but wanted an outlet that didn't require building a public-facing influencer profile.
She was looking for a flexible way to work on creative projects, explore different industries and earn additional income without leaving her career.
Having already experienced Twirl from the brand side, Sophie decided to join as a creator. Her background gave her a valuable perspective on what brands need from UGC creators, from communicating concepts clearly to delivering content that follows the brief.
Working around her full-time job, she began taking on campaigns across home interiors, pets, beauty and skincare. Her Cavapoo, Doug, even became part of her content creation journey.
Despite creating part-time and being selective about the campaigns she accepts, Sophie reports securing at least one brief per week since starting.
One particularly memorable collaboration was with Medik8. Although skincare wasn't her usual niche, Sophie transformed her bathroom into a festive filming setup to bring the brand's Christmas gifting concept to life. The content was approved straightaway, with no amendments requested.
For Sophie, Twirl has provided both a creative outlet and a flexible way to generate additional income alongside her career.
Having worked on both sides of UGC campaigns, Sophie emphasises the importance of making collaboration straightforward for brands. She recommends agreeing concepts and scripts upfront, checking visual preferences and being transparent about delivery timelines.
"There’s so much to say for brands wanting to work again with creators who made the experience seamless."
