After more than 25 years running a foot health and reflexology business, Caroline Smith was ready for a new creative challenge.
In her mid-60s, she discovered user-generated content (UGC) through TikTok and decided to give it a go. What started as something completely unfamiliar has developed into an exciting new opportunity, with brands now approaching her directly.
Caroline had spent decades building her own business, but professional content creation was new territory.
Although she'd become more comfortable with technology while developing an online school for practitioners and growing her TikTok presence, stepping into paid UGC came with a learning curve.
Like many new creators, she initially questioned whether her content was good enough and needed guidance on meeting brand expectations.
After hearing another creator talk about UGC platforms, Caroline applied to Twirl.
Through brand campaigns and support from the Twirl team, she started developing her content creation skills and growing her confidence.
A particularly important moment came when one of her campaigns was approved without any revisions. For Caroline, it was a turning point that showed how far she'd progressed.
Caroline has gone from feeling nervous about her content to having brands approach her with opportunities without needing to apply herself.
She also reported having further campaigns lined up, showing how her UGC journey continues to develop.
Her story is a reminder that there's no age limit to becoming a UGC creator, and that experience, personality and an authentic perspective can be valuable assets.
Caroline's biggest advice for creators is to carefully read each brief, choose opportunities that genuinely suit them and show their personality when applying. She also encourages creators to ask for help rather than struggle in silence.
"And if you are struggling to land a campaign really read what the campaign is wanting.. is it a proper fit for you, and if it is speak from your heart!"
